The Happy Herd Farm Sanctuary - What a visit!!!

This place is truly special...it really opened my eyes to how compassionate animals other than our pets really are. Several of the animals here were on deck for slaughter yet somehow ended up here instead, and you can feel the gratitude in the soul of these beautiful creatures! The owners are amazing and they are able to survive because of volunteers and donors.

Stephanie and I spent our end of summer vacation in Canada instead of our usual trip to Asia this year, and am I ever glad we did. After spending 10 days in British Columbia, most of which was on Vancouver Island we stopped in at The Happy Herd Farm Sanctuary on our way home. This visit was planned by Stephanie and were very excited to make the stop. We spent 3 hours there visiting and feeding the animals, fixing a chicken coop and Stephanie even assisted with giving a chicken medication!

It is clear to see that every animal at the sanctuary is very well cared for both physically and emotionally and there is quite a variety! Goats, pigs, chickens, sheep, cows, ducks, turkeys and even an old donkey! (Baby, she is in the picture with Stephanie on my about page). There were a few special connections for me, first was a 700lb pig who loves belly rubs and apples...for Stephanie I think it was Pickles the pig, she was the first person to be able to give her a belly rub! The biggest surprise for me would have to be the turkeys, they love to be pet and are kind of like a lap dog...they just want love and attention.

The sanctuary is also home to animals with disabilities including deformities including the sad stories of chickens that can barely stand because of their growth rate from farming. As well there are animals that have the same issues as some of our pets like arthritis....yet none of this stops the sanctuary from providing care! Truly heartwarming and eye opening.

All in all I cannot wait to go back and visit The Happy Herd, we will stop in there every time we return to the Vancouver area. If you are ever going to be in the area, shoot them an email and book a tour, you won't be disappointed. I have attached their social links below.
